Songs

Two wonderful songs. But I still can’t listen to either one of them. “Bablylon,” by David Gray. It’s a great tune. I even once cut a wedding video to it as a music video kind of thing. It came on the radio a couple of days ago, and I had to turn it off. It was the last song Maureen …

Beautiful early spring day. Walked from my condo in Belle View to Daingerfield Island, with a stop for brunch at Union Street pub. A little windy, but sunny and pleasant. After the winter we’ve had, it felt great to get outside. I also earned my first “20,000 steps” badge from FitBit. Feet are a little sore but otherwise feeling great. …

Spring is around the corner… or it seems that way. Still piles of dirty snow here and there, but I see crocuses (croci?) poking out. Ran into an old friend during my lunch break. The hill going up Belle View Blvd remains a beast. Six weeks to go before the big event. Fundraising is a little over $3,400. One more …

Still sick

Nasty cold. My ZiCam has failed me; usually that stuff knocks a cold in its tracks. And I felt this one coming on last week. Hoping to get back to training (and work) tomorrow.

Birthday!

Not much celebrating, as this cold is getting worse. Had plans to go up to Baltimore and play tourist (and get lots of walking in), but it’s not going to happen. A shame, because it’s such a beautiful day.

6 mile walk

Not a bad day for a walk. Up the Belle View Blvd hill. Stopped off at Office Depot to run some errands; started to drive, then thought “Wait a second! I can kill two birds with one stone here.” Listening to “A Brief History of Time”on Audible. Yikes. I know he dumbed this down for average folks, but even so …

5 Mile evening walk

I can’t wait until it starts getting a little lighter out in the evenings. But I wore my yellow rain slicker to stand out. Nice walk through the local streets. Such cute little houses around here. Five miles feels great. Definitely getting into the swing of this.

4 miles at lunch

50 degrees outside! Maybe winter is really gone? We’ll see. Did four miles in just over an hour. Doing the math, that means my 26-mile walk will take… almost eight hours? Reminds me of that Stephen King novella from years ago. But without, I hope, the soldiers with rifles who shoot you if you slow down…

Mt Vernon trail

So pretty. So quiet. Got a little over four miles in today. Almost got run over by only one cyclist today, which is a fairly low number for the trail. I’m 6-0, 210, and wearing a bright orange fleece — if you can’t see me, perhaps you should ride elsewhere? Or, perhaps, slow down…

Not just for the women in our lives

People ask me, “Why are you doing this?” Well, that’s a complex answer. 1. Yes, as a tribute to Maureen; not a day goes by that I don’t think of her. I’m starting to think that will never change. 2. As a way to help other women I know who are fighting this awful disease. Every bit of funding helps …
